Winners and Losers from Trump’s $20 billion Argentine Bailout

Winners and Losers from Trump’s $20 billion Argentine Bailout

Who wins and who loses from the bailout.

The Winners

Trump-he collects a bunch of favors from fellow billionaires

Billionaires

According to Big the bailout may be at the behest billionaire hedge fund manager Robert Citrone, a buddy of billionaire Treasury Secretary Scott Bissent

The Super-rich.

Beef prices, the amounts paid to ranchers differ from meat prices, the amounts grocers pay. The middle men: four large  food processing companies that can set both the prices for beef and the prices for meat. Their incentive: make the spread as large as possible. Argentine beef imports ( a part of the deal) reduce the prices for beef. This allows food processers to increase the spread.

The losers:

Cattlemen.

The American Public.

We do best with a rule of law economy. Trump is working to create a favor bank economy in which you need his favor to accomplish economic goals. He expects favors back. Economic data shows that favor based economies don’t do as well as rule of law economies.

Enter Trump.

He says beef prices are too high and prods ranchers to get their beef prices down. This shafts the cattlemen but helps the super-rich who have stock in food processors. This is of no help to consumers who pay the meat price. But the food processor middlemen and their super-rich shareholders can make even more money.

Thanks for nothing, Donald.
