The One Big Beautiful Bill-Red lights blinking
It’s a Porker for the super-rich.
Although it probably has some good stuff, it has blinking red lights. This highlights Bill provisions that probably contain serious pork. Section numbers are included to aid your investigation.
Drill Baby Drill: §§80101-80122. The danger here is opening public lands to big oil at fire-sale prices and harming the people. Oil drilling is a dangerous, dirty business. I know, I grew up in an oil town. A childhood friend had his hand crushed in an unattended well. Section 80171 requires the sale of 30 off shore oil leases that total at least 80 million acres in the Gulf of America (sic?) These sales are big deals, a recent sale yielded $382 million.
Dig Baby Dig. §§80131-80144. Their designation of specific lands gives Sections 80131 & 80132 a strong order of pork. Section 80141 opens up 4 million acres of federal land for digging. Section 80143 cuts coal royalties by 50%.
For good measure the Bill knocks out 5 Western resource management plans. §§80301-80305.
Timber! Sections 80306 to 80310 strip money from park lands and give money to the Trump Parade.. Sections 80311 & 80312 require the Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management to sign long term contracts. Sections 80313 & 80314 require the Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management to increase timber production by at least 25%. Three porker -tinged provisions require conveyance of a smear of specified federal parcels in Nevada and Utah. §§ 80315-80317.
The Bill has a suspicious provision on opportunity zones (§111102). It adds about 175,000 words of dense writing to existing law.
